Championing quality computer science education is important – but it’s only possible with diverse, qualified CS educators in every school. To expand the CS teacher workforce and address equity gaps, professional development plays a key role in recruiting and retaining both new and experienced teachers.
Seasons of CS (2021-2026) is a research-backed professional development model that expands CSforCA’s successful Summer of CS program into an inclusive program available across all regions of California and all seasons of the year. Seasons of CS is designed for teachers, school leaders and school counselors to improve access, equity, and engagement in high-quality computer science education for English-learners, low-income, rural, Black, Latinx, and Indigenous students. The Seasons of CS program took place from 2021-2026 supported by a grant from the CA Department of Education, Educator Workforce Investment Grant: CS 2021.
You can teach computer science, too!
Educators should reflect the diversity of the schools in which they teach, serving as role models to their students and promoting inclusion in their communities. CSforCA is working to increase access to credentialing. Any non-Career Technical Education (CTE)/Information, Communication, Technology (ICT) teacher with a single or multiple subjects teaching credential can add on the Computer Science Supplementary Authorization by taking additional college level coursework. There are various CS authorization programs in CA. Find one that works for you and check out our LEA Application Guide for how districts can access funding up to $6,000 per teacher for credentialing through the state's $15M Incentive Grant for CS teachers.
CSforCA knows the importance of preparing our future computer science teachers in addition to our current teachers. That’s why we are advocating for schools of education to develop pre-service education programs in addition to credentialing for current teachers.

• Computer Science Supplementary Authorization (CSSA) Incentive Grant Program
Local Education Agencies (LEAs) can apply for up to $6,000 per teacher for professional learning. $15,000,000 was appropriated in 2021 from the General Fund to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for the Computer Science Supplementary Authorization Incentive Grant Program (CSSAIG).
