The California State Board of Education (SBE) enthusiastically approved the Computer Science Strategic Implementation Plan at its meeting in May, 2019.  Barbara Murchison, Director, Educator Excellence and Equity Division, California Department of Education/CDE, along with Allison Scott of Kapor Center, Bryan Twarek of SFUSD and Julie Flapan of UCLA and CSforCA presented a compelling rationale for the SBE to approve the recommendations of the California Computer Science Strategic Implementation Plan which includes integrating computer science across the curriculum, expanding course offerings in high school (including offering University of California A-G approved course sequences in all high schools within the next five years), strengthening partnerships with community organizations for expanded learning and mentorship, and creating local communities of practice for teachers to build capacity of educators.

The Plan will be used as a guide for future policy proposals as well as suggestions for a coordinated approach to local implementation.  For more information, see this EdSource: California moves to get more K-12 students into computer science classes
