Governor Gavin Newsom announced the launch of CSforCA while he was Lt. Governor and has always been a true champion for computer science education equity in California. The Governor’s May Budget Revise included significant support for computer science including, many of which were recommendations detailed in the CS Strategic Implementation Plan:

  • The Governor is funding $44.8 million to provide training and resources for classroom educators to build capacity in several education initiatives including computer science and STEM.
  • The Governor is funding the California Computer Science Coordinator, a dedicated position in CDE to help implement CS across the state.
  • The Governor is funding broadband infrastructure in our schools, and especially meeting the needs of our rural communities.

CSforCA looks forward to supporting the work of the new CS Coordinator at the CDE and helping to spread the word about the new funding opportunities for professional development!  We are grateful for Governor Newsom’s dedication to CS and pleased to be working closely with his staff to secure additional resources to help implement the CS Strategic Implementation Plan.
