CSforCA’s favorite professional development program, Summer of CS, is on the horizon. With registration already open, here are just ten of the many reasons why California educators should sign up today:
Summer of CS can help educators bridge equity gaps and utilize meaningful and culturally responsive teaching so students of every gender, race, and socioeconomic status have access to equitable, high-quality computer science education.
Championing quality computer science education is important – but it’s only possible with well-prepared, diverse, supported CS educators in every school. That’s why Summer of CS is available to educators from all disciplines and grade levels.
Since this is a yearlong professional development opportunity, educators not only get free access to any Summer of CS workshop they choose, but also are guaranteed 4 additional academic year workshops of just-in-time support to reinforce, reflect, and extend learning.
From elementary school to Advanced Placement, there is a workshop for every educator K-12, all of which are aligned with the Computer Science Standards and the Quality Professional Learning Standards.
Summer of CS will be an exciting opportunity to convene our thriving CS communities across California through our statewide system of support and regional lead agencies.
California classroom educators and paraprofessionals will receive $175 per day (6 hours) incentives for active participation in the Summer of CS offerings. Most workshops are 3-day or 5-day workshops, with some exceptions.
Since this is a yearlong professional development opportunity, you not only get free access to any Summer of CS workshop you choose. You also are guaranteed additional academic year workshops of just-in-time support where you will meet virtually after school with your workshop provider to reinforce, reflect, and extend your learning, and for which you will receive $175 for every 6 hours you participate.
Summer of CS provides participants with access to a range of resources, including virtual workshops, online resources, and networking opportunities. Participants receive guidance and advice on designing engaging curriculum and teaching with confidence.
Summer of CS will provide an ongoing community of practice and you will connect with your regional and statewide Computer Science Teachers Association chapters. These virtual community of practice gatherings will take place throughout the year, and offer participants the opportunity to convene with fellow educators from the entire state.
By participating in Summer of CS, educators can engage their students in computer science and technology, helping to foster the next generation of tech-savvy leaders in our increasingly digitized world.
Registration closes on May 10 and spaces are limited for Summer of CS, so sign up now!
